Introduction

Multimedia metadata and semantic annotation of multimedia content is the key-enabler for improved services on multimedia content. The archiving, retrieval, and management of multimedia content becomes very hard if not even practicably infeasible if no or only limited metadata and annotations are provided. The M3O aims at providing a representation of the data structures that underlie today’s multimedia metadata models and metadata standards. Therefore, we provide a core ontology consisting of a set of ontology design patterns. Specializing these patterns allows for modeling arbitrary metadata standards, such as EXIF, MPEG-7, or FRBR, in a common framework. On this page we provide links to ongoing work, concrete metadata standards mapped to the M3O, and further documentation about the API that is currently developed.
